Interview with PL Sanderson

About our Guest: Phillip has enjoyed a 30+ year career as a high school mathematics teacher but is now excited to explore another of his lifelong passions, writing. He has been a closet writer for many years, sharing only with family and close friends. In 2022, he began writing in earnest and experimented with short fiction published in a monthly newsletter for two years. Phillip and his wife live in southeastern Virginia, where they stay busy updating an old farmhouse (which is more of a journey than a destination) and keeping up with their four adult children. Most mornings she patiently listens to the dreams he had during the night and wishes that those people living in his head would begin to pay rent and stop free-loading. Lastly, Phillip is extremely salty that he did not receive an invitation to try out as the host for Jeopardy!, but reluctantly agrees that Ken Jennings does an acceptable job. About our Guest: G Clatworthy started writing during the 2020 lockdown (her first book was called The Girl Who Lost Her Listening Ears, which tells you all you need to know about lockdown!). Interview with Scott Walker #WriteTalkWednesday

SHOW NOTE My voice starts going at the end of this episode (thank you Spring Allergies + Cold Blargh!), so my apologizes for sounding funny (funnier than usual?). Thanks for understanding. About our Guest: L.A. Scott currently writes cozy fantasy and urban fantasy, though he’s been spinning stories and weaving worlds for decades. When not writing, he loves playing D&D, dressing up as a Star Wars Sandtrooper for Halloween, baking sourdough bread, and playing video games. About the Cozy Vales project: Cozy Vales™ began with a simple idea: create a single cozy fantasy world for multiple authors to play in - and that’s just what happened! Author L.A. Scott created the foundation for Cozy Vales™ and invited others authors to add to it. For nearly a year, L.A. Scott and the rest of the Cozy Vales™ Scribes meticulously built out a cozy world and crafted cozy fantasy stories before launching their debut: Winter Tales from Cozy Vales. Even though all stories are set in the Cozy Vales™ queendom, each scribe brings their own voice, tone, and creativity to the project. The result is a delightful collection of tales for fans of cozy fantasy! Interview with Chuck Rothman
S02:E10

Interview with Chuck Rothman

About our Guest: I’ve been writing SF and fantasy since the 1980s, with two novels and over 50 short stories in places including Asimov’s, Fantasy and Science Fiction, Galaxy, and Analog. I recently received word that my third novel, The Cadaver Princess, will be published by Experimenter Publishing, part of Amazing Stories. The novel is set in London in 1831. Bodysnatching is common, as people sell them to anatomists at medical schools for teaching purposes. The latest shows up at one Dr. Sheppard, and sits up and talks, claiming to be the heir to the throne, Princess Victoria. Sheppard’s assistant, a young Senegalese man – captured by slavers and freed – is Pablo Mansong, who helps Victoria get her bearings and discovers the plot to replace her and have her rule as a puppet. But there are dark forces, ancient wizards, demons, and music that can drive people mad, all of which require Pablo to work to thwart them. I’ve been writing hidden historical fantasies, where the fantastic elements do not contradict the actual historical facts. It’s been something I’ve been writing for several years. Outside of writing, I’ve been involved in SF conventions. I’ve done programming for Albacon and will be the con chair for this year’s event. I’ve also run it for Astronomicon, and for last year’s Buffalo NASFiC. Quite a few years ago, I was treasurer of SFWA for three years. I also blog about movies and other forms of entertainment at greatbutforgotten.blogspot.com. I’m retired after 25 years in the IT department at Siena College. I live in Schenectady with my wife Susan. Interview with AK Nevermore
S02:E11

Interview with AK Nevermore

About our Guest: AK Nevermore writes Sci-fi & dark romantasy with spice. She enjoys operating heavy machinery, freebases coffee, and gives up sarcasm for Lent every year. I’m sending you my bio because it’s super early when I’m filling this out and my mind is a vacuum at the moment. A Jane-of-all-trades, AK’s a certified chef, restores antiques, and dabbles in beekeeping when she’s not reading voraciously or running down the dream in her beat-up camo Chucks. Unable to ignore the voices in her head, and unwilling to become medicated, she writes full time around a nest full of ravens. Her books explore dark worlds, perversely irreverent and profound, and always entertaining. AK belongs to a bunch of industry associations, volunteers for far too many committees, teaches creative writing, and on the rare occasion, sleeps. Interview with Frances Billinghurst
S02:E09

Interview with Frances Billinghurst

From Frances Billinghurst: I am an author, metaphysician, and initiate of a modern Mystery spiritual path with ancient influences residing in the Antipodes, south of the equator. I have long been drawn to the Mysteries of the cosmos - regardless of how they have appeared through myth and legend, sacred symbolism or in the liminal dreamscape. This has led to the study of various esoteric and occult sciences, with being initiated into a number of traditions that focus around understanding these sacred portals between the worlds. The books I write are based on my explorations, personal discoveries and research, often from the perspective of living south of the equator, as well as from a personal embodiment, or lived experience. Interview with Elen Sentier

Interview with Elen Sentier

About our Guest: After a quarter of a century of working in corporate managerial and software engineering roles with the Ministry of Defence I knew I had to get out - but I can be very stubborn, and fearful of change. I hung on, waiting for a Round Tooit to come along but, as you know, they’re’ just about extinct! Eventually, it got so bad I ended up crippled by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis plus a whole set of add-on autoimmune conditions. I gave up my stubborn resistance and let otherworld to lead me towards a much more satisfying way of living. I got medically retired, but I can’t sit around doing nothing! So I became a transpersonal psychotherapist and began offering the old wild-heart wild-magic I was brought up in twined with the transpersonal skills, as a new way of living magically. For the past 30 years I’ve helped so many people - who’ve all, in their own ways, gone though similar self-discoveries - to thrive. Interview with Sandra Bond
S02:E07

Interview with Sandra Bond

About our Guest: When I was eleven, my school held a mock-census. One of the questions — a very obvious question to include — was “What do you want to be when you grow up?” There were the usual answers you’d expect; soldiers, firefighters, pilots, and the inevitable wit who put “A man”. Out of the whole school, over a hundred pupils, only one person put “Novelist”. (Not even “writer”, you’ll note. “Novelist”.) If you guessed that one person was me — well, you win a no-prize, I suppose. I bowed to pressure and went off to be a lawyer instead, but sanity prevailed and I got out of the legal racket to find a career that left me with enough spare brain-power and time to write. And so I write; sharp, distinctive fiction, most often in my first love, the science fiction and fantasy genre. My first novel, The Psychopath Club, appeared in 2021 from The Canal Press. The same publisher, failing to learn any better, is also responsible for The Devil’s Finger (2023) and Three Men In Orbit (forthcoming, August 2024). Doffing my novelist’s hat and replacing it with a poet’s one, I’m also the author of Poetry Slum, a collection of verse covering a broad range of topics, most of them controversial or argumentative. (I don’t see much point in cosy poetry). I continue to pen poems alongside my fiction, and I expect I always shall; prose I have to work on, but poetry just happens to me.
